Further information

In the first years of the application, the publishers gave the numbers to themselves, but since the publishers have not sent the necessary information back to us, the information is now kept in the Agency. Since 1998, the information of the publications of the publishing houses who have joined the system are kept in MARC format due to the information they give. We are cooperating with the National Library in the subject of preparing the National Bibliography.

Also, to make the publishers more conscious about ISBN, the 4th edition of the ISBN User's Guide published by the ISBN International Center has been translated to Turkish, and it is ready to all our users in the General Directorate of Libraries web page; http://www.kutuphanelergm.gov.tr

In addition to this, all the information kept about the publishing houses and their publications can be accessed by publishers, universities, libraries and investigators in our web site.

A new web based project that can serve the publishers has started under the name of General Directorate of Libraries.

In order to lessen the unused numbers, starting from August 2002, assigning ISBN from the group of thousands that is separated for the writers/publishers will start.

The ISBN Agency of Turkey, is always in communication with the publishers in the system. The requests of ISBN that reach us either by phone, by fax or e-mail are sent to publishers.
