Spain ISBN Agency Signs Agreement to Share Bibliographic Metadata

The ISBN Agency and the National Library of Spain have signed an agreement to share bibliographic metadata. The ISBN Agency will develop a piece of software that would allow the National Library to download metadata from the ISBN database choosing the output format: MARC, ONIX or CSV.

The downloads from the ISBN Agency database can be configured with a lot of flexibility and filters, and can be programmed to be executed automatically every day or every week.

Provided the ISBN Agency database has the metadata of the books prior to their publication, this agreement will produce important savings in the National Library Legal Deposit cataloging costs.

Both institutions hope the agreement would be joined by some other cataloging agencies and library networks in Spain.
