The 2025 ISBN AGM takes place in São Paulo
The International ISBN Agency (IIA) was very pleased to have held its 2025 Annual General Meeting in São Paulo, Brazil. The meeting was organised by CBL (Câmara Brasileira do Livro - the Brazilian Book Chamber) and took place at the Unibes Cultural centre on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 September 2025. We welcomed 81 delegates from 48 different ISBN registration agencies and related organisations, a very impressive total. The first morning of the meeting was also streamed to another 31 delegates remotely.
From the IIA's point-of-view, and based on the comments of the delegates, the 2025 meeting was very well organised and the hosting was professional and courteous. For this we place on record our sincere thanks to CBL. Colleagues at CBL worked very hard on the arrangements of the meeting and we congratulate on the success of the AGM.
The AGM this year focussed on several key issues affecting the publishing industry in general and the ISBN Standard in particular. We were delighted to hear keynote presentations on the situation regarding publishing in Brazil. We also held a strategic discussion with ISBN registration agency involvement to determine the threats and opportunities for ISBN in the coming years.
The 2026 AGM will be held in Madrid, Spain. We look forward to next year's meeting and hope to see many colleagues there.
